Alternative Cooling Technologies and Applications
Research in ACTA focuses on improving energy efficiency of air conditioning and refrigeration systems that have minimum impact on the environment. This includes work on conventional vapor compression, absorption and desiccant cooling technologies and emerging concepts such as thermoelectric systems. In particular, projects include two-stage cooling systems with conventional refrigerants and carbon dioxide, secondary loop cooling technology for automotive and truck applications, compressor/expander integration, carbon dioxide per quarter heat pumps, flow distribution in heat exchangers, separate sensible and latent cooling approaches, integration of thermoelectrics into conventional systems and the development and maintenance of a roadmap for new technologies and their integration. The latest addition is a solar cooling project.
