Stall characteristics and design of reverse flow rotor blades

Rotors that operate at high advance ratios (e.g, high-speed helicopters) experience significant regions of reverse flow. This work aims to better understand the unsteady separation and reattachment that blades experience in this type of flow. Conventional airfoil shapes have a sharp trailing edge, which results in poor stall characteristics, but redesigning the trailing edge shape of a blade improves stall in reverse flow.
